How can I get audio alerts for messenger and email?
If you've got your speakers turned on you should get alerts already
Reply:Simple solution..

Download Sound Alert Toggle here:

run it.. done :)

Easy.. and you wont need to change them again every time you update your messenger version. Report Abuse

Reply:The default settings for yahoo messenger are set up to give you an alert for both of these, so if you don't hear them I would say that either someone else set it up for you and turned them off or your computer doesn't have sound capability. The correct path for checking is from the tab labelled "messenger" at the top of yahoo messenger then choose "preferences" then choose "alerts and sounds" Make sure there is a tick in the box next to "enable alert sounds". Hope this helps.

(just as simple to toggle them back to the new ones if you want a change ;)
Reply:just set it to get alerts and if your have speakers you will get the sound even when you get IM sound like fairy dust i think.lol hope it works...
Reply:Yahoo! changed the sounds from v800701 (released 10 August 06) onwards to "new" ones (they are actually from the Mac version) so our familiar sounds are no more... the latest ones are really quiet also which is why some ppl think they no longer have sounds.. but they do.. it's just that these ones tend to whisper ;)

A simple method for converting back to the old sounds is to replace the new sounds with the old ones which you can download the previous sounds (.wav files) to replace your existing ones from...

or

instructions included with the .zip file but basically just unzip the file, copy and paste all the .wav file included and drop them into

C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Media

and overwrite when prompted

This does have a few disadvantages though, like

- it's more difficult to change individual sounds (you may like the new 'buzz' sound but want the old sign on 'knock' sound back)

- When you update messenger it will restore the new sounds

- Every user logging onto the same computer has to have the old or new sounds the same as everyone else.

- You have to know how to unzip files and place the sounds in the correct folders

so Andy created a nifty utility "Yahoo Sound Alerts Reset" that lets you pick and choose which sounds (old and new) for each event and for each user.

You can quickly choose to set all alert sounds to the old or new sounds for any number of users on your machine (just tick the check box), or click the edit button beside the user name to toggle individual alert sounds from the old to new and back again. No zip files to locate, no changes need to be made when upgrading messenger, toggle from old to new any number of times even while messenger is running
