How do I get the alerts on my messenger and email. Had it now it's not alerting. Tried preferences????

How do I get the alerts on my messenger and email. Had it now it's not alerting. Tried preferences????
You will need to have Yahoo Instant Messenger open in the background to hear the sounds.


1. With Messenger open, click on "Messenger."


2. Click on "Preferences."


3. Click on "Alerts %26amp; Sounds."


4. Check the box next to "Enable alert sounds.


5. Check the box next to "Alert me when someone signs on or off by showing a message at the bottom right corner."


6. Check the box next to "Playing a Sound."


7. Click the "Browse" button to choose the sound you prefer.


8. Click OK to save and close your preferences.
