How to clear the drop down box on messenger where it changes from, type yahoo ID,type a phone #, type email?
I want to be able to clear out a bunch of user IDs that I no longer want to have contact with. I have deleted them from my friends list and from my address book but they still appear in the drop down box on my messenger.

the only way I know of is clearing the entire list (rather than individual ID's listed) is to pop into your Yahoo! Cache directory located at....
C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Cache
you can delete the entire contents of the Cache folder (which will remove it) or you can delete just the conversation history list.
it's going to depend on if you have logged in using one default ID or mutilple ID's, if one then there will be one file, if multiple, then there will be multiple files... one for each ID you have used
the file you need to delete will look something like...
Ex4PoBU5oaXdyQjk0tQ_FQ--
.conversationhistory.xml
the...
"Ex4PoBU5oaXdyQjk0tQ_FQ" part will be completely different though, so just look for any / all files ending with... conversationhistory.xml
right click and delete each file, or if you're worried about deleting just rename the extension instead e.g
{name}.conversationhistory.xml
would become
{name}.conversationhistory.OLD
when you sign out of yahoo messenger a new conversationhistory.xml file will be created clearing your list :)

Hi, has anyone ever had a problem with yahoo instant messenger not working on email?
I use YIM to notify me when I have new email, this has worked wonderfully for the past few years. Suddenly last week it does not work anymore. I have both downloaded new versions, and even tried another computer. So I think it has something to do with my mailbox or something about my yahoo account. I have attempted to install Messenger, I received an error:
Download of file has been cancelled or interrupted - 404 Not Found, Retry did nohing, I aborted. Uninstalled the failed install-rebooted and tried again. I got the same error and had to abort. I turned off my Firewall on the second attempt.
What do I do?

Reply:The default settings for yahoo messenger are set up to give you an alert for both of these, so if you don't hear them I would say that either someone else set it up for you and turned them off or your computer doesn't have sound capability. The correct path for checking is from the tab labelled "messenger" at the top of yahoo messenger then choose "preferences" then choose "alerts and sounds" Make sure there is a tick in the box next to "enable alert sounds". Hope this helps.

Reply:Yahoo! changed the sounds from v800701 (released 10 August 06) onwards to "new" ones (they are actually from the Mac version) so our familiar sounds are no more... the latest ones are really quiet also which is why some ppl think they no longer have sounds.. but they do.. it's just that these ones tend to whisper ;)
A simple method for converting back to the old sounds is to replace the new sounds with the old ones which you can download the previous sounds (.wav files) to replace your existing ones from...

Why does my messenger say that I have 17 unread email messages, but when check my email,they've all been read?
For the past 2 years the amount of messages showing on my msn messenger has been 17+ however many I actually have that are unread. When I go through my messages, I make sure they're all read, however the messenger never goes below 17 messages.

Single but involved, living together for almost 2 years. He looks at porn alot, which I don't mind, I will usually sit with him and we look together. But what I do mind is as soon as I go to bed he will log onto his messenger service or check his email. If I happen to get back up and come in the room he minimizes the screen and logs out as soon as he can. He says he isn't doing anything wrong, but I feel that this is suspicious and he is hiding something. Every time I get an email an annoying yellow picture of an envelope appears on bottom right of screen. I use yahoo messenger while i play games to communicate. i wouldnt mind if it didnt flicker on during my game. It even minuses some games! frustrating. and the worst part is, when i click the envelope i still have to type in my email and password. some shortcut that is.

like, I am on my own computer but, I signed into my friends msn.. and usually when i am on my msn, I can click on a person, and click view chat log history, or I can go there from, my documents, but now that I am on her's .. it doesnt show me the conversation that she had with the contacts, how do I see HER chat log history on my computer, not mine ?

You cannot view a chat log unless the chat took place on that computer. It only logs and stores what was mentioned on that computer. You cannot view logs that were made on another computer... those logs will be on the other computer that the account is normally on if the person has it set to log.

If your friend had conversations on your computer and opted to save them, you could view them in your 'recieved files' folder. If not, you're out of luck.

I'm looking for an application that can do following : MSN/Yahoo/ICQ messaging (Skype text messaging would be nice too), POP3 Email support and Browsing. Importantly, all this has to be able to run through HTTP proxy server as well, including Messenger and Email downloads..

I'm tired of the frustration with trying to edit such things as my nickname or my profile. Every time I try and do this, (I do hit the save or finish and save tab every time) but It always goes right back to the original settings. Also In the help topics It says to edit your nickname, click on the home page, then under your nickname on that page click on the "change this" under your name.....there Is no "change this" under my name. Simply, make sure ALL fields marked with a red asterisk are filled in properly on the Basic Info settings page, or the page will not save.
- Click on your "Settings" link at the top right of the page.
- There is a section called "Nickname" on that page (BASIC INFO). Change it there. You can also change the "Name" above that section.
NOTE: If you don't want your name to show, you can't delete your name but you can hide it or use a fake name. However, something is required to be in the first %26amp; last name fields. The "Just Me (Private)" setting is preferred, but if you don't have that option choose "Friends." Delete all your friends (see http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/360/fri... ).
You can't completely get rid of the 360 functionality without deleting your entire Yahoo account (mail, photos, etc.). You can only make sure no one who you haven't invited can view a feature and make sure that there's nothing there to view.

Don't give up please! Delete this account that is full of glitches and bugs and make another one and get a new set of 360 pages.. they may work like a charm for you.. I usually have no trouble with mine at all.. has been good from the start.

Did the Windows Live Messenger email inbox link change recently?
I noticed that when I click "email inbox" on messenger it takes me to a sign-in screen that seems different from the one I saw a week ago. However I just installed (a standalone) windows live messenger on a new machine and I want to make sure there's no virus. The sign in screen just looks different. Reply:In order for you to use Yahoo! mail on Outlook Express or Outlook, you'll be using it as a POP mail service. Currently, you have to upgrade to Yahoo! Plus for that and there is a fee for it.

Click your address book tab. Then if you move your cursor over their name, it should pop up with their ID and email. You can always just click on the email icon my their name.

There are so many of these messenger services it gets confusing. There used to be MSN, which has now been changed to Windows Live Messenger, which apparently has been updated and then if you are a Yahoo user there is Yahoo Live Messenger. Chances are if you have been using this same Login for some time, you started with MSN so I would see if you still have that under your Programmes list and if you don't , then try Windows Live Messenger. I'll bet you still can get in under that programme

Well, you can turn off the alerts for Yahoo! Mail. At the top of Yahoo Messenger click the Messenger menu and choose Preferences. Now click Alerts %26amp; Sounds category on the left. Select under "Alert me when," "I receive a message in Yahoo! Mail." Then uncheck whatever alerts you want to where it says "Alert me by." Now click OK. That should take care of the Mail alerts for you. Though this might not get rid of the tiny Yahoo! Mail icon that shows by your clock that looks like a little envelope.

My email notifier on messenger has stopped working. The new emails go to my inbox, but are not letting me know
on messenger, which I use a lot while I'm researching so I don't have to keep going to my mailbox to check for new mail, any suggestions anyone?

There is a problem with yahoo. Here is the message that I got from Yahoo yesterday...

Although we can not offer you an estimate as to when this problem will be fixed, please be assured that we are aware that the problem exists and our engineers are investigating this further. Unfortunately, we cannot offer any further information regarding this issue. We will certainly notify you once we have word from our Messenger Engineering team when this is resolved.

When talking to people on Yahoo messenger it comes up with my email address, on each sentence, this is now beginning to really get on my nerves, and instead of increasing my friends i feel i want to ignore the whole thing, just because of this idiot of an address, so somebody please HELP!!!!!!!!
